NPS Round 1: Fort William |
This is second hand information but I can't be everywhere can I!
This was a slight change of direction
for the NPS this year, the race in general a more relaxed, fun atmosphere although
mikrotime were still not totally on top of the live timing situation. The course
was defiantly a change for the better, most riders considering it world cup
quality. Colin MacRae opened the track on his Scott DH bike and went on to ride
several practice runs with friend Carric-Anderson.
The course started off on a steep, man made, gravely track cut into the side
of the mountain and nasty rock sections. This led on to a newly built tight
switch back section. After this was a natural section that the fitter riders
could pedal through for those extra seconds. The last section was new and, it
seems, a bit of a media whore of a section but max fun for the riders and spectators
too. It was smooth and consisted of berms, jumps and drops. Near the end of
the course was a steep (60degree!) slope that let into a sharp right-hander,
riders were hitting the corner very fast and some just could hack it and found
themselves on the wrong side of the berm on their ass. The more daring riders
were jumping into the berm , this made this section particularly popular with
the spectators. Towards the race runs the course, due to its speed, was cutting
up badly with some nasty breaking bumps, witch combined with the lose, rocky
service made the course very tough.
Steve Peat took the win 16 seconds ahead in just over 4 and a half minutes,
a long course. Carrick-Anderson came second and a return to form for Will Longden
saw him in third. Fionn Griffiths came up with the goods for her new sponsor
Ancillotti UK to take Elite women. Super Series star and Royal/Orange rider
Marc Beaumont won Junior Men. MBUK's new signing Nick Platt did well coming
in 5th in Junior and Dirt's new signing Dave Smith came second in the same category.
