Name: Graham Foot Age: Old Time riding: 15 years plus Types of riding: started when sort of extreme xc was all that was on offer. Moved into DH later. Love bikes |
|
Could you please explain to a total novice what Bicycle Supercross is:
BSX is 4 rider head to head racing down a purpose built multi line course. (This is where it differ from BSX plus its rougher and downhill). It originated in this country from multi rider DH idea. Course contains routes for all abilities if its built right and has some mother of all jumps for those with wings.
How did the whole BSX thing start up, where did the ideas come from originally?
I can only comment on what I am aware of and that is our stuff at KIS. Things got going in 99 with as I said earlier a multi rider DH type event. It has evolved from then onwards to today. There are other organizers running so call BSX events but they tend not to have courses like the stuff built at KIS.
How do you see the sport progressing from here, world domination?
I reckon if all goes to plan it will spread across Europe first as the US is going the Mountain Cross route and sticking with full susers. Although we have linked up with some Canadian guys. For the sport of BSX to grow and stay around it needs to gradually evolve not go massive over night. The way KIS and the BDRA do things its more laid back anyway and run for the riders benefit knowone else.
What do you think the future holds for XC and Dh in their current forms?
XC is massive right now despite what you might think. Every event is packed out. I will say though that it tends to be the more eduro type events these days. More rider against the course than each other. Downhill is here to stay although it may loose the big sponsors, its still what everyone loves the best and where it all started don't forget.
What do you think of the way the whole UK scene is going right now?
Oh! what can I say. Offroad cycle sport has been badly represented in this country for years now and never despite all the work of the guys trying to run it, it still gets worse year on year. We, I mean the BDRA, have introduced an alternative to the BCF but are only too aware of the problems ahead. We do not wish to go into battle with the BCF more introduce an alternative and let the riders decide. We will be catering for offroad cycling only and aim to offer full-time facilities for all, not just racers. Details on www.right2ride.co.uk
How did the Bike Show BSX race come around, what form is it going to take and is indoors something you will be considering for the future
The So called BSX race at the Bike show is really just an overgrown BMX event to be honest, its not a BSX course in KIS terms as it has a very ordinary layout with nothing bar big jumps. I will say though that it is a great start to indoor as the BDRA will be concentrating hard on setting up full-time indoor facilities for the winter of 2001/2002
What’s the situation with Dirt City 2 at the moment; we’ve all heard bits of info regarding the council trying to shut it down, is that final?
Its not good really, the main problem is the F&M right now. We've got cases springing up all around us. KIS are looking for an alternative site right now and should have news very soon. The way to go at the mo’ is inner city or indoors.
What are your ultimate aims with the BDRA and the Right to Ride campaign?
The ultimate aim?? To have full-time venues for all types of offroad cycling around the UK. proper DH sites with Chairlifts in Wales, Shropshire and of course Scotland. Other sites will be much like Woodward in the States catering for BMX, BSX, Trials, Skate, all types of wicked sports even Climbing walls. Join the BDRA and help get the ball rolling. It is all possible.
How has the involvement of companies like Halfords helped you and the sport?
This is a very embarrassing subject right now as Halfords have helped us out loads and we would never have set up |KIS at all without them, now whats happened, we can’t use it. Not good. All I hope is that we can find an alternative quickly and reopen KIS DC2 as soon as poss. it will open.
Any final words? | ||
Only to say thanks for the opportunity to be interviewed, its my first on the web. Hope all goes well with you and hope all the riders out there bare with us and get thorough this crap. All the best and don't forget, Join the BDRA and make it happen!
